It was announced this morning that Farrah Fawcett lost her battle with Cancer at the age of 62.

Ed McMahon dies at 86

 

Ed McMahon passed away this morning due to ‘complications resulting from pneumonia and other ailments.' He was 86 years old.

Before becoming the announcer and straight man on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (which lasted 30 years!), McMahon put himself through college by selling vegetable slicers on the boardwalk in Atlantic City. He also served as a flight instructor and pilot in the marines (fighting in Korea). After that he landed a couple broadcasting jobs and first worked with Johnny Carson on the game show ‘Who Do You Trust' in the late 50's, then moved to the Tonight Show when Carson took over in '62.

I'm missing a great MITK Weekend!

I'm taking off for some much needed (but hardly deserved) rest this weekend, but you should get out and enjoy some great local music.
Here are a couple places to go check out some great bands you've heard on Made in the Kootenays:

One of the first rock groups we featured on the show, Mr. Feeley and The Touch, are playing with Heddy Acclaim at Finley's on Friday night. That's a great double bill - both bands put on a great show.

And just up the street at Nelson's newest venue, The Velvet Underground (all ages), Hammerhead is going to funk up your night (also on Friday). Make sure you drink a bunch of the delicious juices available there - you'll need it - you'll be up on the dance floor for this one!
