Toxco Investigation Wraps

The exact cause of the fire at Trail's Toxco battery recycling facility earlier this month may never be known.

A joint investigation between the the Trail Fire Department, Toxco and the Ministry of Environment couldn't determine the precise reason because the fire's intensity destroyed much of the evidence. 

However Trail Fire Chief Garry Johnson says it is believed a malfunctioning battery sparked the initial explosion.

Johnson adds given the volatility of lithium products, he's glad the battery malfunctioned at the safely contained Toxco site, rather than in someone's home or office.
