Local firefighter encourages kids to be burn aware

As part of burn awareness week, BC professional firefighters are hoping to teach kids about fire safety through a poster contest.

Kootenay Boundary Fire Captain Jason Milne says the contest is run through the Burn Fund...in the past Fruitvale Elementary has yielded a winner.

Their winnings included money for their school and a pizza party for the class.

He says education is key in preventing burn injuries- which account for a high number of hospitalizations for children.
