Raising funds in '85 and a couple Knock-Knock Jokes
I took a look back On This Classic Day during The Nooner and told you about the anniversary of the recording of ‘We Are The World’ from USA for Africa. The final recording session took place on January 28th 1985 and, as promised, here is the video that was made.
Honored numerous times—including three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award and a People's Choice Award—the song was promoted with a critically received music video, a home video, a special edition magazine, a simulcast, and several books, posters and shirts. The promotion and merchandise aided the success of "We Are the World", which was eventually named the biggest selling single of all time. As of 2009, it has sold more than 20 million units and raised over $63 million for humanitarian aid in Africa and the US. "We Are the World" demonstrated that diverse musicians could productively work together, and further influenced the movement within pop music to create songs that address humane concerns. Today also saw the premier performances from two up and coming new comedians in the Kootenays. June and Chelsea told us knock-knock jokes for tickets to The Snowed In Comedy Tour (tonight at the Capitol Theatre). In case you missed them, here they are. The jokes are classics – but it’s all in the delivery :) Listen
