Castlegar celebrates Doukhobors
A province wide campaign is inviting BC communities to submit an application outlining special moments in their history.
150 moments will be selected across the province then inscribed in stone to be placed on the grounds of the Parliaments Buildings.
The City of Castlegar will be submitting an application and councillor Gord Turner says he will be submitting in an application celebrating the settlement of the Doukhobors in 1908.
Turner said it was hard to choose one particular moment, he noted that the dams that were constructed on the Columbia River were very historical but there was a negative impact that followed the construction that is still felt in the community.
