What's a Beaver Tail?

Barack Obama was searching for a Beaver Tail in Ottawa, I have never heard of it.  But thankfully our KBS listeners are always willing to help out.

Here's how you make it:

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup warm water
• 5 teaspoons dry yeast
• 1 tsp sugar
• 1 cup warm milk
• 1/3 cup sugar
• 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 eggs
• 1/3 cup oil
• 4 1/4 - 5 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
• oil for frying
• granulated sugar for dusting
• cinnamon

Directions

In a large mixing bowl, mix warm water and 1 tsp of sugar. Then add yeast. Do not mix. Allow mixture to stand for a couple of minutes to allow yeast to swell or dissolve.

Stir in remaining sugar, milk, vanilla, eggs, oil, salt and most of flour to make soft dough. Knead 5-8 minutes (by hand or with a dough hook), adding flour as needed to form a firm, smooth, elastic dough. Place in a greased bowl.

Cover bowl with cloth (If not using right away, you can
refrigerate the dough at this point). Let rise in a covered, lightly greased bowl, about 30-40 minutes. Gently deflate dough, (if dough is coming out of the fridge, allow to warm up about 40 minutes before proceeding).

Pinch off a golf ball sized piece of dough. Roll out into an oval and let rest, covered with a tea towel, while you are preparing the remaining dough.

Parents Only: Heat about 4 inches of oil in Test by tossing in a tiny bit of dough and see if it sizzles and swells immediately. If it does, the oil temperature is where it should be.

Stretch the ovals into a tail - thinning them out and enlarging them as you do. Add the beaver tails to the hot oil, about 1-2 at a time.

Turn once to fry until the undersides are deep brown. Lift beaver tails
out with tongs and drain on paper towels.

Fill a large bowl with a few cups of white sugar . Toss beaver tails in sugar (with a little cinnamon if you wish) and shake off excess. Try a squeeze of lemon.

The Nose Flute rocks!

Alright, I now I don't blog enough but I will try. So a couple weeks ago I went back and hung out with my old College Roomate.  We toured the halls of RDC in Red Deer.  We both had aspirations of becoming superstar musicians...I'm now here at KBS and Lewis is making the Nose Flute Cool!

He recently met Garth Brooks and Played him the Nose Flute...who knows, maybe Lewis will be asked on tour!

This Tuesday Lewis played the nose flute on the Wayne and Jayne show...making KBS the first radio station on the planet to feature the nose flute. You just don't find talent like that in the big cities.

How could you drive by?

Today I have to talk about the tragic accident that happened outside of Fruitvale Tuesday afternoon.  Of course our thoughts, hearts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this accident.   I knew it was bad by the sound of all the emergency vehicles heading out to the scene. I just have not been able to shake the thoughts about what happened to the people in this crash.  Then today on the news, Erin mentioned that 2 cars drove through the accident scene without stopping.  I am flabbergasted that this would happen here. You see that stuff happen in news programs for a major city...but here???  When you see a vehicle flipped over in a ditch and another car smashed up how can you possibly drive by?  Seriously, what could be more important than helping?  There is nothing that makes this OK. There is no excuse. So to whoever it was that drove through the accident to continue on with your day, shame on you. I don't know what has happened in your life that you could be so cold as to not help. But don't worry too much...because God forbid something ever happens to you, I want to say, that we will be there to help you.

I can't let the young punks beat me

I just read the blogs from Kier and Brad and I made a decision...I too am going to get in shape.  It's funny because this weekend my wife and I started by going to the gym and taking a bike ride.

Man did it ever feel good pumping weights again!  But maybe I got a tad excited.  This morning I decided to leave the car and bike the 15km's to work.  I thought I was going to die on that hill from Waneta to Glenmerry.  So, if you see a guy lying on the side of the road on that hill at 5am...please call an ambulance! 

I hope this new "get fit" way of life lasts longer than my last diet, which ended after only 24 minutes!!!  That may possibly be the shortest diet ever!  Have a great St. Patty's days.

I have to say, not including my wife and kids or my college years, this had to be one of the greatest days of my life!!! 'SUGAR MAMAS' TO MEET 'BOY TOYS': A New York entrepreneur is bringing together 20 "sugar mamas" -- who are over 35 and earn at least $500,000 a year -- with 20 "boy toys" for a speed-dating event on February 7th. Promoter Jeremy Abelson explains, "Symbiosis has allowed ugly rich men to attract young, gorgeous, money-hungry women for centuries; it's now the women's turn." One participating woman says, "I find younger guys will usually be totally into you while older guys will be looking over your shoulder at a younger woman. Younger men expect an older woman to be more accomplished. They are looking for you because you are intelligent. They are not looking for a mother." "Sugar Mamas" may also have $4 million in liquid assets, entrusted assets or divorce settlement instead of earning a half-million per year. Abelson said more than 5,000 men applied, and 20 made the final cut for the speed-dating event.
